Will Kubiak and Schaub return in 2011?
Both Schaub and Kubiak can’t return in 2011 with the Texans. It just doesn’t seem to be working. A lot of people picked the Texans to win the division The Texans weren’t ready when the Colts slipped. The fact is that they’ve seemed to take a step back this year. It’s understandable they didn’t want to overpay for Robinson, but they needed to replace him with a veteran, not a rookie. They were set to start rookies and second year players at the CB positions. The CBs would look better if the defensive line could provide a little more pressure. Maybe if they can improve that, more NFL teams will sell for them next year.
Schaub puts up big numbers, but it just doesn’t seem like all the leadership qualities are there. Schaub has found ways to win games in the past that everyone in previous years would have counted them out. In the losses, the Texans still put up a lot of points, and everyone knows it’s their defense that kills them in games. Schaub’s INTs have been costly this year, and he needs to cut those down for next year. Schaub’s comeback games softens the blow of those extra INTs, but the pick-6 throw cost the Texans the Ravens game. What about Kubiak? How much blame should he get?
Kubiak needs to be able to help put together a winning defense along with his successful offense if he wants to be considered a good head coach. The team has been underachieving for a while now, and the coach may be to blame in this instance. If Kubiak can’t figure out a defense, he should just be a OC or QB coach, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Kubiak has to put together a good defense if he wants to stay. Houston’s special teams used to be a threat with Jacoby Jones, but he’s slipped on the return game while trying to establish himself as a better WR. If Kubiak wants to stay as HC, he should have to take a pay cut and give that money to help sign a top defensive coordinator.
Getting a top DC is the only reason the Schaub-Kubiak combo should be allowed to stay together in 2011. If they can, it’ll help to keep selling out the NFL football tickets next year.
