Dear Mr. Oher and family: I purchased your movie after renting it. I was so moved by your ability to survive in general but even more so with a positive attitude. I know you probably get a lot of requests for you to be a speaker at various events, but do you happen to speak at any Junior high schools? I’m working with my son’s jr. high faculty at Watson Chapel Jr. Highs School in Pine Bluff, Ar. Pine Bluff is very much like Memphis. We have a high poverty, violence, and drug rates with very little hope of getting most of our young men into college. We have over 800 children in the jr. high and yet we had only 6 parents volenteer to work with the kids to help them achieve their goals, I am one of those six. I was at the school putting out pamplets that try to prevent all of the above problems that are corrupting our children and a couple of pamplets promoting self esteem and information on college financing. I ask some of the young men in the computer room if they had read any of the pamplets? All of them said “No”. We are desparately trying to find a way to get to them. Are there any grants that we could apply for to pay for you to come and speak to our kids? We think if we can get some young men that have reached their dreams in spite of everything that’s happened to them to talk to them and show them that anything’s possible if they are willing to work for it and keep a possitive attitude. If you can give us any assistance, we would greatly appreciate it.

I’m liz from the u.k.. i’m 38 and grew up in care. I’m disabled.
I am now A christian and have my own place. I worship at The Salvation Army and attend an annual music and drama school where I met my best friend. She is the Choir leader.
Haveing someone who believes in you really makes the difference doesn’t it.
